Postcards of Dorking – 1940s to the 1970s

A selection of picture postcards showing well known locations from Dorking in Surrey, between the 1940s through to the 1970s.

These four postcards are just some of the many hundreds I inherited from my maternal grandparents. Some are used, some are not; others come from very exotic locations, while others depict more familiar places, like their home town.

Your own family records can be a wonderful source of detail to fill out your family history.

From the top:

  • Dorking General Hospital, c.1950
  • Montage of Box Hill Slopes, The Stepping Stones, High Street, The River Mole and the Dorking Cockerel, c.1940s
  • The White Horse Hotel, Dorking, c.1950s
  • Montage of Mill Pond (Meadowbank), South Street, Friday Street and High Street, c.1970s
